Fishing Report
December 16, 2004- Sorry I haven't been posting
reports for all of my trips, but today I had the head for it. The
weatherman really got it wrong today....forecasted winds were
to be 10-15 out of the N/E. When I called the trip a go on Wednesday
night Don Anderson and Jody Brown were rarin' to go...when we boarded
at 7:30 and heading out winds were roaring at 18-22 and gusting...I
knew we would have our work cut out for us. To make matters worse
the river water was eating through all of the areas that I have
been having great success in. Plan B would take effect as it was
9:00 and no fish in the box. Traveling farther south and away from
the effects of the river water we found a good bite on specks holding
down deep in 8-10' of water. Tightlined assassins were the ticket
to the tricky bite but soon all of us would be "bowing up"
and putting some nice specks in the box. a lot of these trout were
juvenille but there were a lot of good specks up to 16" in
the mix. Not only did we find a good bite but we were also protected
from the harsh winds next to a tree line and we were stripping off
layers of clothing in the midst of our trout slam. As the falling
tide incresed against the hard east winds, the water would become
stained and the bite dwindled down. This stop produced about 45
specks 12-16". The only other stop we made with success was
out in the open and fighting the wind with the trolling motor against
a lee shoreline where we found a slow but decent bite on some beautiful
specks in the 14-16" class. we finished off our trip here after
about an hour of hard fishing ending up with 65 trout. I was really
impressed with Don and Jody. They have fished with me many times
in the past, but on this trip they really hung in there with me
and worked hard for fish.
